Club History
Cestrian Alexandra FC Nicknamed The Alex.
Founded: 1931 Cestrian Alexandra Football Club is one of the oldest football clubs in the Chester and District league and was in existence for most of the last Century.
Cestrian Alexandra is believed to have been formed from Cestrian Commercial College (pre 1935’s). The Commercial College was situated in Northgate Street opposite the Bull and Stirrup Public House. In 1937 they were winners of The Cayzer Shield. During the War Years however, the football league was suspended with all the young, fit players enlisting in the armed forces.
In 1946-47, with the League resuming, Cestrian Commercial College applied for membership to the League with 2 teams.
In 1948 G.Molyneux, representing Cestrian, was elected to represent the Chester and District League on The Chester & Runcorn FA. In 1950 Cestrian “A” were Relegated from Division A to B and Cestrian “B” from Division B to C. In
1952 Cestrian “A” & “B” became Cestrian Alexandra & Cestrian Alexandra Reserves. There were 3 names who were regularly connected to the Club in the 50’s & 60’s. These were G.B.Robertshaw and the Molyneux Brothers, Bill & George.
In 1956 Cestrian Alexandra FC were given permission by the League to play their home games at the newly opened Hoole Park. Cestrian had two teams in the league up to 1971.
In Season 2006/07 a new dawn for The Alex after many years spent based at Hoole Park with the club moving to a new home. Cheshire County Offices will be the venue for the start of the new era with it’s splendid new clubhouse and fantastic facilities.
The Club also has a new club badge and motto “Sursum Alex” which translates to a favourite saying from our current manager “Up The Alex”.
