CWFL Statement re Coronavirus & Football Update 2

Thursday 26thMarch 2020

CWFL Statement re Coronavirus & Football

FA Concludes all Grassroots Football for season 2019-2020.

Once again these unprecedented times have thrown grassroots football another curve ball. Today the FA announced that all grassroots football has been concluded for the 2019-2020 season due to the global pandemic caused by the Coronavirus in order “for the game to move forward and to commence planning for next season”.

The league will now be working with Cheshire FA to look at ways we can best facilitate the integrity of our competition whilst also working with our clubs to achieve the best platform going forward. You can rest assured that as always we will work with you, our clubs, to ensure we get this right. Cup competitions will also be on the agenda.

These times are extremely challenging to us all. We have been heartened to have received messages of support from clubs with regards to the difficult situation we all find ourselves in. The CWFL will be working hard behind the scenes to bring you the very best football we can once the green light has been given. We will keep you all fully informed via regular communications.

In the meantime it is imperative that we all follow our Governments advice and stay home, save lives and protect our brilliant NHS.

Wishing you all the very best. Stay safe.

Best Regards

CWFL Committee

All CWFL Fixtures Suspended

Sunday 15thMarch 2020

CWFL Statement re Coronavirus & Football

CWFL is suspending all competitions until further notice.

After further assessment of the ongoing Coronavirus situation the CWFL have decided that all our Open Age, Vets and Flexi competitions will be suspended immediately until further notice.

We have come to this decision after evaluating yesterday’s games and witnessing things that we, in all good conscience, cannot control such as close contact of opponents, use of communal changing rooms, mixing with people unknown to each other and the sharing of water bottles to name but a few. It is felt that this is potentially compromising the health and well being of not only the players and officials for each game but also their families and loved ones.

We are also mindful of the fact that many of our games take place at venues such as High Schools, Leisure Centre’s and other places where we have no control as to the comings and goings of other users, putting them and our players and officials at unnecessary risk.

As much as we would not wish to come to this decision we feel that it is the correct call to make at this moment in time. We know that some will be upset by this suspension but we feel we owe a Social Responsibility to all our CWFL participants and the communities our games are played in. Everyone’s health and wellbeing must come first before the fixtures.

We will continue to review this situation and work on contingencies once we get back up and running. You will all be informed as to the status of our discussions.

On behalf of the CWFL we wish you all the very best during these difficult times. Please look after yourselves and your families and loved ones.

Best Regards

CWFL Committee
