Claire House Charity Tournament
The CDFL got off to a flying start on Saturday 11th August with the first in a season long series of events to raise funds for the Claire House Children’s Hospice Appeal.
Claire Bear was on hand at the Goals Soccer Centre, Bumpers Lane in Chester, to welcome all the 18 teams who supported this event. After team registration and tournament rules, all clubs were pictured with Claire Bear before the tournament got under way.
All teams were split into 4 groups with the top two teams progressing through to the knock out stages.
The final was played between CDFL Premier Division side Greyhound who ran out victorious against CDFL old boys Sutton Way Villa.
League Secretary, Paul Graham, said “a great day was enjoyed by all. I can not thank those clubs who supported us in this event enough. They were all a credit to themselves and the CDFL. Everyone involved has really got into the spirit of the occasion and the players seemed more interested in getting a photo with Claire Bear than playing their games. It was never about the end result, it was about raising as much as we could for the CDFL nominated charity, Claire House.
I must thank everyone who made today possible from the league and I must say a massive thank you to Goals Chester. They have been truly magnificent. They have let us use this new £3 million pound arena at no cost to us. They have welcomed us and helped run the tournament for us. They are new to the footballing community in this area but I can say that they have been brilliant for us and we are already looking at ways we can work together in the future. Andi Russell, General Manager of Goals has been a star for us today, along with all his staff. I must also thank all the league officials who attended as well as Deva Snaps for the photo’s of the event.”
This is the first official event in the fund raising for Claire House during the 2012-2013 season with other events planned through out the year.
