Hall of Fame – Stan Bennion

Stan Bennion

Stan Bennion played in the early 50’s for the all-conquering Saltney Juniors and was soon spotted by Wrexham for whom he signed. His early career was interrupted by 2 years of National Service (in Cyprus) but on his return he had a successful stint with Wrexham and then a shorter stint with Chester.

He had notable success playing for Rhyl and New Brighton before dropping into local football with Hoole. A break in the 80s saw him take on coaching roles with 46th Cubs and New Scene FC before rekindling his playing days by joining Cestrian at the youthful age of 48. He played for Cestrian and occasionally for Dee Rangers on Sundays well into his 60s.

It is stated that he was never booked – remarkable given the years he played and his competitive nature. That competitiveness was always tempered with a sense of right and wrong and at full time he would shake every ones hand with a beaming smile. He loved the game and judging by his amazing luck with injuries……the game loved him.

A true CDFL Gentleman and Legend!!!
